About the European Information Platform

Between 1995 and 2009 the Planta Europa Network (a unique network of governmental, non-governmental, research and educational organisations) has come together for plant conservation. By sharing expertise and information on plant conservation the Network has facilitated opportunities for the development of pan-European projects and partnerships including the development of the European Strategy for Plant Conservation (ESPC) with the Council of Europe. This strategy is a contribution the CBD Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.

The Network’s secretariat developed this website, the European Information Platform for Plants (EIP), to allow better access to information relating to plant conservation in Europe. We found that information sources on plant conservation, though numerous, were widespread, difficult to find and constantly changing, so a common reference point was needed.

• The EIP allows you to access an overview of the current situation of plant conservation in Europe with complete country profiles including a description of the flora, main organisations, publications etc.

• The EIP provides on-line information on progress towards the targets of the European Plant Conservation Strategy (ESPC), at national and European level.

• The EIP gives case studies, tool kits and contact information that illustrate each of the ESPC targets and these are displayed and downloadable as useful resources and guidance for governmental institutions, scientific and non-governmental organisations involved in the implementation of these targets.

• The EIP is a project in evolution - you can contribute information on your projects by filling in the templates and sending them to Plantlife International who are managing this site. Please send to enquiries @plantlife.org.uk

The EIP has been produced through the efforts of the Planta Europa Network members, the Secretariat and with some information from the former website of Plant Talk. We hope that it will allow more fluent communication among users, where emerging issues, suggestions, successful projects and new ideas will be collected.
