1st Planta Europa Conference
Hyères, France 1995
The 1st Planta Europa Conference followed an appeal made by Plantlife International to the 1993 meeting of the Bern Convention Expert Group on Plant Conservation. This appeal included a call for partners to help with the organisation of a conference on the conservation of wild plants and their habitats in Europe. The French delegation offered to host the meeting.
From the past to the future: Hepatica transylvanica will be the symbol of the next Planta Europa conference in 2007
This was the first ever European conference on conservation of wild plants. This 1st Planta Europa Conference was a tremendous success. It was the first time that delegates from so many different countries (32 in total), had met and dedicated time to tackling the conservation of European wild plants.
Common objectives were very soon apparent and the conference received a lot of international support. During this conference it was decided not only to hold another conference in three years time, but also to build up Planta Europa as a joint Network for plant conservation in Europe.
