Planta Europa Awards
Silver Leaf Awards are presented in recognition of excellence in plant conservation in Europe. In past Planta Europa Conferences up to three silver leaf awards are being presented although this year five personalities have been awarded.
Each award is a unique piece of art;
it is a wooden sculpture with a silver element in a form of a leaf. All Planta Europa awards have been made by Swedish artist Ylva Anckers.
The Jean-Paul Galland Award is Planta Europa’s top award. The award commemorates the French botanist and conservationist Jean-Paul Galland, who was one of the founders of Planta Europa and who died tragically during a plane crash in 1996. Each Planta Europa Conference presents one single Jean-Paul Galland Award to individuals and organisations for outstanding achievements in plant conservation
Both awards were presented for the first time at the 2nd Planta Europa Conference in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 1998.
Linnaeus award is being set for the 2007 Conference to celebrate de 250 th Anniversary of the known as father of Taxonomy, the Swedish biologist Carl Von Linnaeus . The award will recognize important works in plants taxonomy.
