4th Planta Europa Conference
Valencia, Spain 2004
Participants of the conference in Spain
A review of the European Plant Conservation Strategy (EPCS) took place at the 4th Planta Europa Conference in 2004. The implementation, achievements and difficulties that Planta Europa Network came across with the initial implementation of the EPCS were discussed in detail during this conference. One of the major achievements of this conference was the development and publication of the Mid-term review of the EPCS, in which targets and milestones of the ECPS were revised, and lead organisations for each target were confirmed.
The conference was a great success. The mid-term review identified that more than 50% of the 42 targets of the EPCS were progressing well and two targets had already been achieved. Two new targets were added and other targets were substantially amended. These changes reflect the new developments in plant conservation since 2001, and the dynamism with which a strategy such as the EPCS can react to new developments.
Beside the mid-term review, the Critical Targets were discussed and agreed by the delegates. They show what Planta Europa and its members see as their most crucial (and minimum) contribution for the delivery of plant conservation in Europe by 2007.
