2nd Planta Europa Conference

Cyrille de Klemm recieved the first ever Planta Europa Award in memory of Jean-Paul Galland, who tragically died in a plane crash
The 2nd Planta Europa Conference took place in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 1998. The Swedish Species Information Centre (ArtDatabanken), kindly hosted the conference.
Important decisions were made on this conference regarding the future of the Planta Europa Network. A series of resolutions and a strategic plan for the network were agreed and adopted at this conference showing the way forward for the Network.
The Conference mainly discussed the plant conservation needs in Europe and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The Important Plant Areas (IPA) project, one of the Network's key projects, was developed. Additionally the conference delegates agreed on the concept and the methodology criteria for the selection of IPAs.
The conference also discussed the identification of threatened species, the application of the revised IUCN Red List Criteria and further information to support plant conservation and the restoration of biodiversity throughout Europe.
