The 2nd Planta Europa Conference took place in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 1998. The Swedish Species Information Centre (ArtDatabanken), kindly hosted the conference.

Important decisions were made on this conference regarding the future of the Planta Europa Network. A series of resolutions and a strategic plan for the network were agreed and adopted at this conference showing the way forward for the Network.

The Conference mainly discussed the plant conservation needs in Europe and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The Important Plant Areas (IPA) project, one of the Network's key projects, was developed.
