Wake Up Call Guidance
The Wake Up Call will act as a framework for Planta Europa’s communications and awareness raising in 2008. The campaign will include a range of activities throughout Europe. Raising the profile of plant conservation is an important cornerstone of the Network's challenge.
Planta Europa members, friends and the Secretariat will work hand-in-hand to achieve the biggest possible impact on decision makers, media and the wider public throughout Europe.
Background
The Wake Up Call 2008 is a communication tool to promote the need for a better protection of Europe’s wild plants to key decision makers and European citizens, through national and local activities and across all media. This will mobilise people to get more active to save Europe’s wild plants.
Key messages that will be communicated:
- Many wild plants in Europe are declining rapidly.
- The European public is concerned about the destruction of its floral heritage.
- European and national decision makers must act now to halt this trend.
- A clear, measurable and accessible roadmap towards a better protection for Europe’s flora does exist. Planta Europa is coordinating its implementation and supporting governments in taking necessary steps.
- Everybody and anybody can do something to conserve wild plants.
Planta Europa’s key value is that it is an interactive Network where partners work in partnership for a joint goal. A high level of participation and response from the Network’s members and other partners will decide the success of the Wake Up Call. Ideally, there will be something happening in each and every country where Planta Europa is represented (currently 34).
Planta Europa members and friends are invited to become active and carry out an awareness raising or education activity that is linked to the Wake Up Call in 2008, assist with this campaign, e.g. press work and translations, or similar.
How will it work?
The Planta Europa Secretariat has prepared a guidance document on how the campaign will be taken forward. Partners, in particular Planta Europa members, are invited to contact the Secretariat with ideas for activites in their country.Currently, only five countries have a nominated national focal point, i.e. a volunteering organisation which is prepared to stimulate activities on a national and local scale, and work closely with the Secretariat of Planta Europa to promote the campaign in their country.
Other organisations are invited to join the campaign. Please contact the Planta Europa Secretariat if you are interested in taking part.
